Just wanted to say thanks to all of you early adopters and brave souls who have registered accounts and taken a chance on our growing baby here. We’ve been selling online for years, and before that we had an actual brick and mortar store for over a decade. But this is the first time we’ve tried setting up and running our own website. And let me just say… it’s coming along nicely. In fact, this month might be the first month our Pop Life website actually pays for itself.
Now I don’t mean makes a big profit. I simply mean it might cover its own operating costs. But that includes paying me for the hours of work I do, adding inventory, packaging sales, organizing, buying, etc etc. If things keep going the way it’s going, I might not have to sweat my bills this month! And I sure do appreciate it!!! It’s nice to get paid.
Some of you have come here from the little shops we maintain on other websites. Welcome. Please consider purchasing from this, our home website, whenever possible, as we don’t have to pay a bunch of extra fees when we sell here on our home website. Ebay’s fees are outrageous. Sometimes 30% when you add up all the ways they nickel and dime their sellers. Mercari is a much more reasonable 10%. But that’s 10% we get to put in our pockets when you buy here on our home website.
In the future, as Pop Life continues to grow, we would like to add more and more features. We’d like to get a forum going for collectors of physical media. Social media has gotten so poisonous, so we want to offer a discussion group of like minded collectors where the #1 rule is BE NICE TO EACH OTHER. We need to get a trade in program up and running. We’re even looking into a program so that trusted partners can sell on the website alongside us. The more cool stuff we can offer, the more traffic we’ll get, and the more stuff we can sell. And the more stuff I can sell the more I can buy to put on the store. It’s nice to have an excuse to collect all this awesome stuff. DON’T THINK FOR A SECOND I DO THIS BECAUSE IT’S MAKING ME RICH BECAUSE IT’S NOT!!! Haha!!! I do this because I love weird old movies and obscure old comics and derive a lot of joy from digging through old boxes of comics and CDs and movies.
The ultimate goal is to grow Pop Life into a giant sales platform for physical media, but also a place where we can gather and protect all of these cultural treasures until more people realize that digitization and streaming sucks all the fun out of movies and comics and start collecting again. We are not just obsessed collectors. We are the guardians of our culture, and our collections are not just enjoyment, they are the hard copies of our arts and entertainment. Not to mention those streaming services are basically cooking our planet. A physical copy of a comic book or CD isn’t using electricity when it’s sitting on your bookshelf. Just imagine how much power is being used when 20 million people stream the latest episode of some Disney Channel series all at once!
Convenience, or a habitable planet? I know what I’ll be choosing.
