Price range: $6.95 through $7.95

The first ongoing solo comic book series for the character Cable, published by Marvel Comics from 1993 to 2002. Publication and creative team

  • Publisher: Marvel Comics
  • Run: The series ran from May 1993 to September 2002, lasting 107 issues and 5 annuals.
  • Key creative teams:
    • The series was launched by writer Fabian Nicieza and penciler Art Thibert.
    • Many other writers and artists contributed throughout the run, including penciler Patrick Zircher who worked on a significant portion of the series.
Key story arcs and events
  • Early issues (1993): The first issue, titled “Rocks and Waves,” features Cable returning from the future to the present to thwart a plot involving a temporal displacement device by the Canaanites.
  • The Cable & Deadpool series (2004–2008): After Volume 1 concluded, Cable’s story continued in a new series that paired him with the “Merc with a Mouth.” The duo are literally bonded in the “If Looks Could Kill” story arc after being infected with a virus. The series focuses on their unlikely friendship and explosive teamwork.
  • The Messiah War crossover (2009): Volume 1 should not be confused with the 2008 series, which was heavily involved in the Messiah War storyline. In this plot, Cable travels into the future to protect Hope Summers, the first mutant born after M-Day. This is a different story arc from the 1993 series, though both feature Cable trying to save the future.
