Extraordinary X-Men, Volume 1 (Marvel Comics, 2015–2016)
Launched in the aftermath of Secret Wars, Extraordinary X-Men redefined the mutant status quo in a world where Terrigen Mists are lethal to mutants and extinction feels imminent. Written by Jeff Lemire with art primarily by Humberto Ramos, the series centers on a small, embattled team led by Storm, operating out of the hidden sanctuary of X-Haven.
With mutants hunted, dying, or in hiding, the book leans heavily into survival, found family, and moral compromise. Classic X-Men themes—prejudice, sacrifice, and hope under pressure—are pushed into darker, more intimate territory as the team faces threats from both humanity and their own uncertain future.
The series ran for 20 issues and played a major role in the broader Death of X and Inhumans vs. X-Men era, setting the stage for the eventual restoration of the mutant race’s future.
