Venom: Lethal Protector (Vol. 1, 1993, Marvel Comics)
The first solo series for Eddie Brock’s Venom, Lethal Protector redefined the character from one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous foes into a reluctant anti-hero. Written by David Michelinie with artwork by Mark Bagley and Ron Lim, this six-issue limited series ran from February to July 1993 and marked a turning point in Venom’s story.
Overview:
After years of conflict with Spider-Man, Eddie Brock relocates to San Francisco in search of redemption. He vows to protect the innocent rather than destroy, forming an uneasy truce with Spider-Man—if Venom stays out of trouble, the web-slinger will leave him alone. But Eddie soon finds himself defending a community of underground dwellers from corporate greed and military violence.
His quest for peace is shattered when the Life Foundation captures him and extracts symbiote “seeds” from his body, creating five new offspring: Scream, Phage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony. These deadly creations test Venom’s resolve as both a protector and a monster.
